Description
Welcome to the first contribution of the “Geringverdiener ([ɡəˈʁɪŋfɛɐ̯ˌdiːnɐ] Geringverdiener) Racing Association”.
This is obviously just fun. But we also had a funny evening where we decided to host a little 12 man Straight Rhythm event. Sadly the current Straight Rhythm implementation isn’t the best for that case so here I am with a dirty fix.
The track is called “Straight Rhythm GRA” in game, so you can use it parallel to the already existing stock track.
The centerline is untouched, only thing I changed to make it a better experience was:
- Removed the straight_rhythm value, so it’s possible to practice during an online session, and for all the other things to work
- Moved start/finish right after the drop-off, so the lap starts counting once you left the podium
- Split 1 is untouched and Split 2 is now the new “finish” – this is mandatory for qualifying laps (more later on)
- Added some layout objects to make it the real deal, to prevent collisions in pits ect. and to display the “rules” I came up with in less than 3 minutes
How to play it:
On the track there’s multiple “rule books”. Read and obey them!
Best experience is to be in a voice chat with all contestants, someone has to moderate it, be admin in the server and work out a Google or Excel sheet, for example:
- The server MUST have collisions disabled! This is mandatory, otherwise the game or server will crash. Reason below.
- The contestants should either do their qualifying laps (decide for a time, start a new practice or actual qualifying session, then everyone has 3 tries) or you go by list and do it manually
- For a qualifying lap to count, the contestant has to start a lap, ride the track, return, and jump off/start a new lap to finish the previous one and write data to the session. That way the host/moderator can see the S2 time and transfer that over to the sheet. So S2 time = time from drop off to finish arch
- Once the qualifying is done, the host/moderator has to prepare the groups.
- THIS IS IMPORTANT!! Once the groups are set, the riders have to pick their gates according their position in the groups. So say Group 1, Player 1 picks gate 1. Player 2 picks gate 2. Group 4, Player 1 has to pick gate 7!
That way you make sure that the contestants are on the opposite line. This has to be repeated for each advanced round. - If everyone picked their gate, the host/moderator starts the race session. ONLY the currently active group is allowed to race! EVERYONE else has to go to replay and watch that race! This is real fun, especially stressing for the current riders as everyone is looking at them. The track has an awesome auto-cam and also a side drone, which looks really cool aswell.
After a race:
- Host/moderator writes down who won, and then either the group that finished right now continues with the next match, or the next group starts so it’s not too boring for everyone. This is up to you.
- Make sure everyone has their gates, then start a practice session and once that’s loaded start the race session. Again, only the currently active group is allowed to race, everyone else go grab that camera.
- First who won 2 matches in a group advances to next round. Then there’s 1/4 finale, 1/2 finale, finale… or whatever you’re up to.
Known bugs:
- The added objects should be collidable, for some reason they’re not like they’ve been back then. I will probably update the track once PiBoSo explained to me how or if it should work, we’ll see.
- Sometimes the gates get messed up. The track comes with 20 gates (10 left, 10 right), so if someone isn’t able to get the picked gate, try some that are not used by other players.
- Wait, 20 gates, 10 left, 10 right. Wdym bro?
In order to fully work, there’s 10 gates overlapping each other so those who are in the active group are definitely able to race. I can’t explain it really, but this is how I figured it out. So make sure opponents are definitely on the opposite of each others, so one has the left gate and the other has the right gate.
I hope you kinda got my idea and I explained it ok enough for anyone to understand. If not, we are probably going to stream an evening and show exactly how we have thought it through. Sounds confusing at first but it’s definitely only the first time that it’s confusing.
Wish you good battles and let’s hope to make Straight Rhythm great again!
